Apple Vision Pro

One of the only pieces of media Apple has given us on the Apple Vision Pro.

The download

This summer, Apple released their Apple Vision Pro at WWDC 2023, and it was Apple‘s first “spatial computer”, or ar/vr headset. It is a competitor to headsets such as Meta’s and Google’s (yeah right). In a recent press release, Apple said that their headset would be available to preorder on January 19th, 2024, and available on February 2, 2024, but that is only in the United States.

Zoom out

While there are still some unanswered questions, it is likely that Apple stores will be flooded with buyers of the headset. With a starting price of $3,499, the product is meant for a specific audience, but that may change with other models.

Oscars

It’s a case of bad timing. The nominees for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced this Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024. Now obviously I can’t share the nominees, but here are some predictions for the nominees. If you want to make predictions yourself then here is a list of all the movies that came out in 2023.

Although we don’t know what the nominees will be, I think we can all agree that Barbenheimer won’t let us down.

Golden Globes

Some awards did come out, and to see those, look here.

Something I find cool

Helium tank. Photo credit: Balloon Time via Target

This tank gets heavier as you empty it - kind of. The reason for this is that this is a tank filled with helium, and since helium is a lifting gas, which means it is lighter than air, it rises above the air. As a result, it appears weightless. Helium is the most popular lifting gas, but others include neon, hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen, methane and carbon monoxide. Tanks like these are usually used for filling up balloons, so next time you’re prepping a party, remember that while this tank isn’t actually getting heavier, it still fells like it is.

You can read more about lifting gasses like helium and hydrogen here.

Me. I know it’s cute.

In the months of Coronavirus-19 that were dragging on like a wet piece of cloth, I learned I could express myself in a new form, film. It all started with a school project. Since I was home, I could use any type of communication, so I turned on my “camera” app, and it all started. Before this, I had never tried to make a film. For example, it seemed as outlandish as jumping off a cliff, but in that moment, something changed. It was like someone turned on a switch within me, and now, there were new possibilities. I could capture my thoughts in a new way for the first time, but I am jumping too far ahead. Back then, at that moment, it was just me, my camera, my thoughts, and my glasses. There was nothing more and nothing less, and at that moment, I pressed that big red button. I was recording, and it was like I was dead for the first few seconds. I was only blinking and breathing. Maybe, just maybe, there was no bulb connected to that switch. Then I realized I had to find a set. A set is a place to film; my set was my house's guest bedroom. Since then, almost nothing has changed. I’m still filming, but not just in my guest bedroom. I'm filming everywhere! I’m filming at the train station, at the airport, and mostly, in my bedroom. Now I’m adding transitions, effects, and much more, but I never would have gotten here if I hadn’t pressed that big, red button for my school project. Have I learned one thing from filming? Yes, I learned you have to be flexible, you have to find joy in something, I find joy in film. With film, you can create something of your own.
